After consulting various Mallorqu\u00edns, of birth right, who have been adopted or who have lived in Mallorca all their lives, we have come up with 95 characteristics and shared experiences they all have.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Only a true Mallorqu\u00edn can relate to more than 85 of the findings on this list. Take the test:<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0You have had hot chocolate or an ensaimada at Can Joan de s\u2019Aigo<\/a>
\n2.\u00a0You have danced like a crazy person in the parties organised at Flexas<\/a> bar in Palma
\n3. You don\u2019t clean, you \u201cfas dissabte\u201d (only clean on Sundays)
\n4.\u00a0You would have visited Valldemossa and eaten a \u201ccoca de patata\u201d (a type of pastry) at Ca\u2019n Molinas\u00a0<\/a>
\n5.\u00a0You have seen the magical reflection of \u201cEl Ocho\u201d at La Seu Cathedral of Mallorca. (Twice a year the glass windows reflect on the opposite wall to produce an eclipse effect)<\/p>\n

6.\u00a0If you visit the Castle of Bellver, it will be on Sunday, when entrance is free for residents.
\n7. If you have visited the Caves of Drach, it would have been on a school trip.
\n8.\u00a0The best thing about turning 18 is being able to do whatever you want with your \u201cquintos\u201d (your group of friends who belong to the same generation).
\n9.\u00a0You have taken the old train from Palma-Soller and then the tram from Soller centre to the port at least once.
\n10.\u00a0You have gotten lost in the Tramuntana Mountain Range.
\n11. You have enjoyed sunsets in Formentor.
\n12.\u00a0You have been at least once to the outdoor cinema in Parc de la Mar.<\/p>\n

13. You have sat underneath an olive or fig tree in the summer.
\n14.\u00a0You are probably named after your grandparents
\n15. It surprises you that mainland Spain does not offer sandwiches with tomato, olive oil and olives.
\n16.\u00a0In addition to this, you have not had a Laccao (typical drink in Mallorca) outside of Mallorca.
\n17.\u00a0Whenever you travel, you always carry with you a bag (at minimum) of Quelitas<\/a> (crackers that are typical of Mallorca).
\n18.\u00a0When you land at Sant Joan airport, you think \u00a0\u201cCom Mallorca, no hi ha altre lloc\u201d (there\u2019s no place like Mallorca).
\n19.\u00a0You celebrate your Saint Name more than your birthday.
\n20.\u00a0They laugh at you in Galicia for pronouncing your x\u2019s like -ch, for example, \u201cSanchencho\u201d instead of Sanxenxo.
\n21.\u00a0You never use the indicator whilst driving: no-one is interested in where you are going.
\n22.\u00a0Any sort of distance is too far away.
\n23. You learnt these Mallorqu\u00edn jokes at school: \u201cesborres\u201d, (rubbers) you use \u201cestisores\u201d, (scissors) and remove the end of \u00a0\u201cpinturetas\u201d colouring pencils with a \u201cmaquineta\u201d (pencil sharpener).
\n24.\u00a0Even if you do not speak Mallorqu\u00edn, you definitely know what \u201cemprenyado\u201d (angry) means.
\n25.\u00a0 It\u2019s easier to flirt with Beyonc\u00e9 than a Mallorqu\u00edna at a party.
\n26.\u00a0You go to Palma to see the \u201cels llumets de Nadal\u201d, the Christmas lights.<\/p>\n

27.\u00a0We\u2019re sure you have in your contacts 8 Antonias, 10 Margalidas, 4 Catalinas (Cati Neus, Cati Aina, Catalina Mar\u00eda, and Cati In\u00e9s), 11 Xiscos, 7 Tolos and an Onofre, Mar\u00eda Magdalena or Melsi\u00f3n in your family.
\n28. You differentiate yourself from forasteros (the name given to Spaniards who live on the mainland) when you use venir (to come) instead of ir (to go) or traer (bring [changes with context]) instead of llevar (bring [changes with context]).
\n29. You never know if you travel \u2018up\u2019 or \u2018down\u2019 to Palma.
\n30. For a Mallorqu\u00edn, un par (pair) is more than two.
\n31.\u00a0For Easter, you like to cook \u201crobiols\u201c and \u201cpanades\u201d (Mallorqu\u00edn pastries) as a family.
\n32.\u00a0You have been to at least one of these parties: La Patrona (in Pollensa), Rock\u2019n\u2019Rostoll (in Mar\u00eda de la Salut) and Sant Vicen\u00e7 (in Muro).
\n33.\u00a0Every proud Mallorqu\u00edn keeps a pag\u00e9s costume (traditional Mallorqu\u00edn wear) in their wardrobe. You have also flaunted it in the procession of La Beata de Santa Margalida.
\n34.\u00a0You use \u2018pero\u2019 (but) at the end of phrases
\n35.\u00a0You know that \u201cja te dir\u00e9 coses\u201d (means \u2018I\u2019ll let you know\u2019 but only in Mallorca) means the complete opposite: that\u2019s the end of the conversation.
\n36.\u00a0 You know a song by Tomeu Penya.\"\"37.\u00a0When you are drinking you are not \u2018drunk\u2019, but \u201cgat\u201d (the word for drunk in Mallorqu\u00edn).
\n38.\u00a0You like \u201cTorradas\u201d (BBQs with meat), especially if someone offers you some of theirs.
\n39. \u00a0In Mallorca you have breakfast 3 times a day: in the morning, during mid-morning and in the afternoon. And breakfast isn\u2019t breakfast without a generous dish of \u201cvariat\u201d (a selection of tapas)
\n40.\u00a0When you\u2019re having a conversation, you confirm by saying \u201cs\u00ed s\u00ed s\u00ed s\u00ed\u201d, disagree by saying \u201cno no no no\u201d or simply by saying \u201ccaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa\u201d.
\n41.\u00a0You call Mallorca \u201cSa Roqueta\u201d (the Little Rock).
\n42. You\u2019ve been to Can Calent<\/a> in Sa Pobla to enjoy an \u201caigo neu\u201d (ice slushie).
\n43.\u00a0You have been to Lluc a Peu at least once in your life, or have at least tried to get there.
\n44.\u00a0If you are not from Mallorca you will only ever be a forastero (someone from mainland Spain) or a guiri (someone not from Spain altogether).
\n45.\u00a0\u201cPa amb oli\u201d (typical Mallorqu\u00edn dish) is your favourite meal.
\n46.\u00a0You use phrases that don\u2019t have any translation: \u201cSer un cap de fava\u201d, \u201cno faras mai ca teva\u201d.
\n47.\u00a0\u201cDeixonar\u201d is your go-to verb, its meaning depends on the context.
\n48.\u00a0 As soon as one snowflake falls you bring all the family to Lluc.<\/p>\n

\n51. You never miss having a calamari sandwich at Ca\u2019n Mikel<\/a> in Palma on Fridays
\n52. You think that a \u201cllonguet\u201d is not just a type of bread, but also a Palmesano (a characteristic of being from Palma)
\n53.\u00a0If you are from the north, you eat at the buffet of Ses Torres<\/a>, during the week when it\u2019s cheaper, and if you are from Levante, you go to Can Pedro<\/a> in G\u00e9nova.
\n54.\u00a0Spring starts with the Fira del Ram (traditional fair) in Palma.
\n55.\u00a0You only watch the news on IB3.
\n56.\u00a0You include almonds in all your desserts: banana with almonds, almond cake, almond ice-cream, almond ensainmada (a type of pastry)…
\n57.\u00a0In summer, you eat buba flash (a type of children\u2019s ice-cream) or bomb\u00f3n mallorqu\u00edn (choc ices)
\n58.\u00a0You always want to drink Mallorqu\u00edn soft drinks like pinya or pep lemon<\/a>.
\n59.\u00a0Like a real Mallorqu\u00edn, you take your first \u201ccapfico\u201d (bathe) in the sea in July and your last in August, less than 25\u00ba is considered too cold
\n60. On the D\u00eda de las V\u00edrgenes (Day of the Virgins) you eat doughnuts on the street.
\n61.\u00a0If you have a dog it\u2019ll either be a Ca Rater or a Pastor Mallorqu\u00edn (typical dog breeds in Mallorca).

\n65. You have taken part in a matanza or you have at least been to one (when the family come together and slaughter a pig they have been raising for this traditional Mallorqu\u00edn family celebration).
\n66.\u00a0You firmly believe that if your ancestors were not part of the first settlers in Mallorca, you will never be fully considered a true Mallorqu\u00edn.
\n67.\u00a0You have visited Sa Dragonera or Cabrera.
\n68.\u00a0You never want to leave the Sa Roqueta (Little Rock\/Mallorca).
\n69.\u00a0In summer, you have \u201cbadar a la fresca\u201d (sat around doing nothing) with your grandparents at the front door whilst people-watching.
\n70. \u201cTremp\u00f3\u201d is not amiss in any meal.
\n71.\u00a0You have taken part in a botell\u00f3n (drinking openly outside) on the Paseo Mar\u00edtimo (marina) of Palma.
\n72.\u00a0Your preferred ice-cream shops are Can Miguel<\/a> in Palma, Gelats Valls<\/a> in Pollensa, Helader\u00eda San Remo<\/a> in Ca\u2019n Picafort and Helados Garrido in Alcudia
\n73. Do you remember Mimos\u00edn from\u00a0Son Oliva?
\n74. After a storm, you always go looking for snails\u2026 and afterwards eat them with alioli (garlic herb dip)

\n76.\u00a0If a Mallorqu\u00edn says to you \u201cno passis pena\u201d, (don\u2019t worry) you know to start worrying.
\n77.\u00a0We have the best and you know it: Nadal, the best tennis player; Pedro Carbonell, the best fisherman; Marco Asensio, the best football player; Jorge Lorenzo, the best biker; Rudy Fern\u00e1ndez, the best basketball player and Juan Campos, the best DJ.
\n78.\u00a0You would like to see \u201cTomeu Vaig Fort\u201d at CineCiutat.
\n79.\u00a0You haven\u2019t missed even one episode of Uep! Com Anam? and Toni Ballador is your idol
\n80.\u00a0You have gone to \u201cespolsar ametlles\u201d (shake almond trees) to get a bit of extra pocket money.
\n81.\u00a0Who hasn\u2019t swum in a \u201csafareig\u201d (a small pool with water from the mountains or countryside)<\/p>\n

82.\u00a0You believe that the Soller tunnel was constructed by Casta (the abovementioned comedian).
\n83.\u00a0 You like to have a langosta (famous sandwich) in Bar Bosch<\/a> in Palma.
\n84. They say that we find it difficult to say problema (poblema)[problem], semana (sem.mana) [week] and caramelo (caramel.lo) [sweet]
\n85.\u00a0You don\u2019t get yourself a flat tire, \u201cfas parxe\u201d (when getting a flat tire, it is never the person’s fault who has caused it)
\n86.\u00a0You consider Ram\u00f3n Llull our Leonardo da Vinci of the Middle Ages.
\n87. The best bread in Spain is found in Fornet de la Soca<\/a> in Palma.
\n88.\u00a0You have been on an excursion to Sa Foradada.
\n89.\u00a0If you don\u2019t go partying on the Paseo Mar\u00edtimo, you go to Fragel Rock<\/a> or T\u00fanel<\/a> in Palma.
\n90.\u00a0If you\u2019re a university student, you have never missed a single Biofesta (a party to collect funds).
\n91.\u00a0The national sport is \u201cxafardejar\u201d (gossiping).
\n92.\u00a0You blame all your misfortunes on the humidity.
\n93.\u00a0You have complained more than once about how much the Palace of Congress cost in Palma.
\n94.\u00a0You say farewell by saying \u201cdioso\u201d and not adi\u00f3s (goodbye).
\n95.\u00a0You know less places than visitors to the island. A true Mallorqu\u00edn knows Sa Roqueta (the Little Rock\/ Mallorca) the least, as he\/she does not feel the need to leave his\/her village.<\/p>\n
