WHAT TO SEE IN PLAYA BLANCA (LANZAROTE): AN ESSENTIAL GUIDE
Nestling in the south of Lanzarote, Playa Blanca has it all: dreamlike beaches proudly flying an EU Blue Flag, stunning volcanic landscapes, a peaceful atmosphere and a wide variety of activities to enjoy.
If you’re planning to spend a few days here or staying at one of our THB hotels, take note of all the places and experiences that are simply not to be missed. In today’s post, we’ll be revealing the must-see sites in Playa Blanca, one of the most charming spots in the Canary Islands.
THE MOST ICONIC BEACHES
Playa Blanca lives up to its name, with white sandy beaches and calm waters that are an invitation to rest and unwind.
Playa Dorada is without a doubt one of the most popular. Located within easy of the town centre, it is noted for its family-friendly atmosphere and amenities: sun beds, beach bars, and water sports such as paddleboarding and snorkelling. A perfect place to spend the day without a care in the world.
Playa Flamingo is another beach not to be missed, boasting a delightful natural and quieter setting. Protected by breakwaters, it is ideal for taking a dip with the little ones or simply enjoying this little corner of paradise.
And if you’re looking for something more authentic, head for the beach in town, backed by the sea promenade. Although smaller, it has a particular charm and allows you to combine a swim with a stroll or a meal at one of the nearby restaurants.
UNSPOILT CAVES AT LOS AJACHES NATURAL MONUMENT
Just a few minutes’ drive from the town centre lies one of Lanzarote’s best-kept secrets. This protected area boasts several fine sandy coves bathed by crystal-clear waters that evoke a dreamlike landscape.
Papagayo Beach is the best known, but we also recommend exploring others such as Playa Mujeres, Playa del Pozo or Caleta del Congrio. They can be accessed by car (a small fee is charged) or on foot if you fancy a scenic walk. We suggest taking water, a snack and, of course, sun cream, as services in the area are limited.
MONTAÑA ROJA: A HIKE WITH BREATHTAKING VIEWS
One of the most thrilling experiences for visitors to Playa Blanca is a trip to Montaña Roja, an inactive volcano boasting spectacular views of the south of Lanzarote.
The trail is short, although also quite challenging. But once you reach the top, the views will take your breath away: Playa Blanca nestles below, the island of Fuerteventura on the horizon, and the whole of southern Lanzarote bathed in sunlight stretching out before you. If you have the chance, walk this route at sunset… we guarantee it’s an experience you’ll never forget.
A CHARMING SEA PROMENADE
One of the best ways to enjoy Playa Blanca is to take a stroll on the seafront promenade, which runs along much of the municipality’s coastline, stretching from the area known as Las Coloradas to Pechiguera lighthouse.
Along the way, you’ll come across cafés, shops, gardens and stunning views of the ocean and the nearby island of Fuerteventura. It’s the perfect place for a peaceful sunset walk or a stop to enjoy a drink on a terrace with a view. What’s more, it is fully accessible, making it ideal for visitors of all kinds.
LEISURE AND FAMILY ACTIVITIES
Playa Blanca is the perfect choice for families travelling with children or for those looking for activities beyond sun and sea. One of the most enjoyable options is a day at Aqualava, a water park filled with slides, rivers and heated saltwater pools, ideal for all ages. You can also enjoy a unique experience visiting the Museo Atlántico, Europe’s first underwater museum, which can be explored by diving with a guide. And if you’re looking for something more relaxing, the markets at Marina Rubicón offer a lively atmosphere and local products that appeal to both adults and children alike.

To make the most of your visit to Lanzarote, we recommend staying at one of the THB hotels located in Playa Blanca. The THB Tropical Island is ideal for families thanks to its atmosphere, spacious communal areas, pools and activities for all ages.
