10 tips to make the most of 2026 Holy Week in Málaga

Holy Week in Málaga (29/03/26 – 05/04/26) is one of Andalusia’s most striking celebrations.

Its processions wind through historic streets, the brotherhoods showcase centuries of tradition and the atmosphere blends solemnity with passion, creating a truly unique experience. To make the most of your stay, here are 10 tips to help you experience everything Holy Week in Málaga has to offer.

  1. Plan your processions

With more than 40 brotherhoods taking part throughout the week, planning your route is essential. Check timetables and routes in advance so you can map out your itinerary from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday and not miss a single float.

  1. Choose your viewing spots wisely

Streets in the old town, such as Calle Larios, Calle Nueva and the Tribuna de los Pobres, are iconic places to watch the processions. Arriving early will help you secure a good spot and enjoy the experience in comfort.

  1. Learn about each brotherhood’s history

Each brotherhood has its own story, imagery and traditions. Taking the time to read up beforehand will enrich your Holy Week experience and help you better understand the meaning behind each procession and float.

  1. Discover Málaga’s cuisine and traditional Easter treats

Between processions, take the opportunity to sample traditional sweets such as torrijas, pestiños or nazarenos, along with local dishes like espetos de sardinas (spit-roasted sardines) or porra antequerana (chilled vegetable soup). To learn more about the local cuisine, see our article Málaga in every bite: its traditional dishes.

  1. Enjoy Holy Week as a family

Although it is a deeply moving celebration, there are also activities designed for younger visitors. Take a look at our article 10 ideas for family fun on the Costa del Sol and combine tradition with leisure during your stay.

  1. Explore the city on foot

Málaga is ideal for exploring on foot. Stroll through the old quarter, visit the Cathedral, the Roman Theatre or the Picasso Museum, and immerse yourself in its history and culture.

  1. Dress comfortably and appropriately

April weather can be unpredictable. Wear comfortable clothing, bring layers for changing temperatures and choose suitable footwear for walking on cobbled streets for several hours.

  1. Experience the night-time atmosphere

Evening processions have a special charm. The city’s lighting and moments of silence contrast with the intensity of the floats, creating unforgettable scenes not to be missed.

  1. Make the most of the pre-procession transfers

Before Palm Sunday, many brotherhoods transfer their titular images from their churches to their brotherhood houses. Some take place within cloisters, while others move through neighbourhood streets like smaller processions. These transfers offer a unique way to experience Holy Week and enjoy the city without the crowds.

  1. Book your accommodation and unwind

Accommodation in Málaga fills up quickly during this week. THB San Fermín, on the Costa del Sol, is an excellent choice. Located close to Benalmádena beach and the main leisure areas, the hotel offers 315 fully equipped rooms, adult and children’s pools, a gym, Food Truck and a Zen area with a sun deck, perfect for relaxing after a full day of processions.

A complete Holy Week experience

Follow these tips and your 2026 Holy Week in Málaga will be unforgettable. Combine tradition, culture and gastronomy, explore the city on foot and enjoy the Costa del Sol with family or friends. At THB San Fermín, your comfort and rest are guaranteed, allowing you to enjoy every moment without a worry.
