MALLORCA’S FINEST BEACHES: A JOURNEY AROUND THE PARADISES OF THE MEDITERRANEAN
Mallorca, the jewel in the crown of the Balearic Islands, thrills and delights thousands of visitors each year with its fabulous beaches. A mosaic of unspoilt coves, endless stretches of sand and crystalline waters make this island an authentic paradise for sea lovers.
In this post, we invite you to join us on a journey around the finest beaches on Mallorca. You’ll be enchanted by the natural beauty and unique setting of each, and guaranteed to find the perfect spot for creating lasting memories during your break.
The list includes not just the most popular beaches, but we’ll also reveal some authentic hidden treasures – unspoilt coves where you can enjoy all the peace and calm of nature in its essence. Ready to discover the perfect beach for you?
Cala Agulla
This coastal gem features an unspoilt beach of fine white sand, bathed by turquoise waters, making it the ideal spot for relaxing and unwinding. The quiet setting and shallow waters make it the ideal choice for families with children, providing a safe space where little ones can play and have fun in the sea.
Cala Agulla is located in Capdepera, in the northeast of the island, where two of our Mallorcan hotels are located: the THB Guya Playa and THB Cala Lliteras. So, if you’re planning to explore this area, these two hotels are an excellent option. Apart from this cove, you can also discover others such as Cala Gat, Cala Mesquida or visit Capdepera Lighthouse.
Cala Mondragó
There’s no need to cross the Atlantic to feel as if you’re in the Caribbean. And to prove it, just tell us what you think after visiting this cove. Nestling between Santanyí and s’Alqueria Blanca on Mallorca’s southeast coast, this is an authentic natural paradise. This beach is part of the Mondragó Nature Park, and the perfect setting for relaxing and basking in the Mediterranean sunshine.
Its shallow waters and fine white sand make this the perfect spot for families with children eager to enjoy memorable moments by the sea.
Playa de Formentor
Located in the far north of the island is the magnificent Formentor Beach, also known as ‘Pine Tree Beach’. This beach is a stunning beauty spot, with fine white sands bathed by crystalline waters and backed by steep cliffs and pine woods. Apart from relaxing on the beach, visitors can explore the paths that twist and turn along the coastline, leading down to tiny hidden coves. Playa de Formentor is also an excellent spot for observing sea life, making it a popular choice for lovers of snorkelling and scuba diving.
Cala Llombards
Situated close to the village of Es Llombards and just a few kilometres from Santanyí, this white sandy beach is one of the most picturesque on the island. Just 150 metres wide and 55 metres long, it provides a more secluded and private experience. What’s special about it? The fine white sand, crystalline water and the small green mooring places for the local fishing community. We bet you’ve seen the photos on Instagram!
Not far from Cala Llombards are another two of the island’s best-known coves: Caló des Moro and Cala s’Almunia. Unlike Cala Llombards, these beaches are smaller, and so tend to get crowded earlier; what’s more, there are no services or amenities available. However, we strongly recommend a visit to all three coves, as you’ll not only have the chance to enjoy a cooling dip, but you’ll also be treated to some truly spectacular views!
Cala Mesquida
This charming beach, lying on the northeast coast, close to Capdepera, is a natural paradise that captivates everyone that visits it. Approximately 350 metres long, Cala Mesquida boasts a vast expanse of white sand bathed by crystal-clear waters, perfect for enjoying a cooling dip or water sports such as snorkelling and scuba diving.
But what makes Cala Mesquida truly special are the magnificent dunes that extend inland from the beach. These dunes, which are protected as part of a nature reserve, form a unique landscape and habitat for various species of flora and fauna.
Playa de Muro
Located on the north coast of Mallorca, Playa de Muro is a spectacular stretch of coastline that extends for some 5 kilometres. This golden sandy beach is a true paradise for those seeking rest and relaxation and the chance to experience the sense of serenity the sea offers.
This beach has something for everyone: families looking for a space where the children can play whilst the grown-ups relax; couples looking to spend a romantic time by the sea; and friends eager to enjoy a fun-filled day packed with activities. The gentle slope leading down to the shore makes it safe for little ones, whilst water sports lovers will find a host of activities to enjoy. What’s more, Playa de Muro offers an excellent range of services and amenities for tourists, including a wide choice of bars, restaurants and shops.
Which beach should I choose?
The answer depends on your preferences:
- Family beaches: Playa de Muro or Cala Mondragó.
- For romantics: Cala Agulla or Cala Llombards.
- For a day out with friends: Playa de Muro, Playa de Formentor or Cala Mesquida.
Whatever your choice, Mallorca will leave you with lasting memories and a deep sense of connection with the stunning beauty of the Mediterranean.
See you on Mallorca this summer! ️
